How is RPET made?

01 Sep 2023

Recycled polyester is a much more sustainable material than normal textiles. It is much more sustainable since it prevents plastics from going to landfills and ocean. The RPET fiber is just as good as virgin polyester fiber and uses less resources to create. More and more manufacturers are supporting the trend of using sustainable materials to combat pollution.

RPET
also known as recycled polyester, is made by melting down recycled plastic and re-spinning it into new polyester fiber. Plastic bottles are collected from around the world. Manufacturer then clean and turn the plastic bottles into bales/cube form. After that they carefully sort out the cubes and check to ensure they do not contain any impurities such as caps or liquid. When the cubes are clean and ready, manufacturers sort the plastic based on its color and then crushed into small flakes. When they become flakes, they are then going through a second process of cleaning. Which then are sent into a machine for heating and stretching. With different stretch and spins, different types of RPET are made.
