Plastic bags are ruining recycling, what’s the Damage?

18 Dec 2023

Turns out the place where our recyclables are processed can't handle plastic bags. They jam the equipment used to process recyclables, which then creates work stoppages. What this means is that the whole recycling facility has to shut down just because there are plastic bags in the system.

Some facilities that process recyclables toss out the bags when they see them, even if the bag contains perfectly good recyclables. Some facilities will still process them but have people come and clear the bags from the machinery, and this can take up to hours every day.

If we would want to have a sustainable way of recycling and efficient way, we should keep the plastic bags away from the recycling bins. This would have a significant impact on recycling.
